What is Kooth?
Kooth is a pioneer in digital mental healthcare with over 20 years of operating experience globally and is committed to supporting young people in living healthier, happier lives.
Kooth enables its users to access a range of tools, from self-guided educational resources to direct professional support (including counseling) and interventions to support their individual wants and needs. This demonstrates the “one size does not fit all” approach that we view as fundamental to empowering individuals to take control of their mental health.
Our accessible and self-directed platform empowers over 17 million users worldwide to identify, manage, and address challenges to successful daily living, including anxiety, loneliness, and more. It gives users access to culturally-relevant, evidence-based tools and techniques to handle life’s ups and downs.
For Kooth, creating a truly safe space online has always been central to our mission to bring mental health support to all. The key to remaining at the forefront of online safety is our in-depth and ever-evolving safeguarding governance and assurance policies – managed by our experienced Clinical and Safeguarding teams. These ensure we are keeping our hundreds-of-thousands-strong community of children and young people safe – and can be summarized into two Kooth principles:
1. All of our interventions are informed by available clinical evidence.
2. The safety of our users is our No. 1 priority, and we have designed our service to ensure that clinical safeguards are in place at every turn.
This means:
- A safety team ensures clinical appropriateness of user-generated content before publication on Kooth.
- Service users cannot privately interact with others.
- Personal information sharing/viewing among service users is prohibited.
- All content on Kooth is age-appropriate.
- Kooth employs counselors and coaches based on a clinical model requested by partners.
- Counselors and coaches are supervised by experienced clinical specialists.
- Internal governance and auditing follow industry-standard best practices for clinical quality.
In 2022, the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services funded a grant to expand students’ access to mental health support.
Now, any school district in the state can opt into the program completely free of charge to the district, parents, or students. Once a school participates, the service is available to all students at no cost.
Students identify the school they attend so that in the event of a mental health crisis, Kooth can work with the school’s mental health team to intervene.
